Strategy consulting

Strategy generally refers to the (mostly long-term) actions planned by the company in order to achieve its goals and in order to establish, maintain and extend competitive advantages and thereby ensure long-term success for the company.

In this respect, the corporate strategy of company management defines in which way a mid-term (approx. 2–4 years) or long-term (approx. 4–8 years) company goal is to be achieved. This traditional definition of strategy is criticised today primarily because of its assumption of predictability. It has also been the subject of a number of amendments and expansions, for example by Henry Mintzberg.

With regard to corporate strategy, one generally talks about the superordinate concepts of the corporate vision and the mission statement, whereas sub-strategies (e.g. marketing strategies, financial strategies etc.) and the tactical (mid-term) and operational (short-term) levels are considered subordinate.

IT Governance

The strategic alignment of IT operations and infrastructure in a company is a crucial factor in the success and overall value of a company. The corporate goals are critical factors in the design and configuration of the IT environment, processes and strategies.

Coordinating the IT governance efficiently and effectively with the corporate governance represents a challenge for management, the IT organisation and the internal processes.

The coordination and balancing of processes and the interests of all stakeholders, taking into account legal and regulatory requirements, the consistent application of risk management approaches and the efficient use of the resources available are key factors in the stable operation of IT services.

Service Management

IT services in companies have for many years extended to every business unit, with the aim of devising, implementing and operating efficient processes that can provide support to strategic value creation activities.

IT Service Management (ITSM) is not a one-off introduction of processes, but is an iterative process of optimisation supported by regular, targeted checks of the balance between the IT requirements of internal and external customers and the infrastructure architecture and also the services offered.

Numerous standards, frameworks and guidelines (such as ITIL, CobiT, etc.) help companies and organisations to integrate efficient and consistent processes in corporate environments.

Implementation of entire frameworks in accordance with the “textbook” is rarely effective. The crucial challenge here is to identify the relevant individual area of business and to find and pursue a goal-oriented balance between managed processes and the efficient use of the resources available.
